In 2019 we opened the doors of the very first New Tangier showroom, design studio, and atelier created in an Art Deco villa built in the 1930’s in Tangier. Our commitment to craftsmanship has challenged us to refurbish and furnish the space entirely with second-hand or artisanal items, always with the aesthetic sensibilities of our collections.
By bridging the gap between craft and design we have created an alternative to the “folkloric” image of crafts and have drawn a new narrative around the value and function that artisanal items can have. This does not only allow us to explore a plethora of techniques but also re-discover their potential in creating contemporary design that can, in turn, heighten the perceived value of the craft and hence make it more desirable and more preservable.
This lab’s goal is to root its practices in experimentation, but ultimately to render finished products of high value that will contribute to shifting the story of artisanal items and their daily use.
